Supporting Variance Request 25099661
Texas Rainbow Fund supports efforts that create safer, more connected, and more inclusive neighborhoods across Houston. Today, we are asking our community to support responsible housing and thoughtful land use on Center Street.
A proposed residential development at 3520 & 3616 Center Street is requesting a variance that would allow flexibility in parking requirements. This adjustment supports more efficient land use, reduces unnecessary pavement, and helps bring more residents closer to existing businesses, services, and public spaces.
Walkable neighborhoods are safer neighborhoods. When more people live near destinations, streets benefit from increased activity, visibility, and community presence.
This corridor connects to important parts of our city and represents an opportunity to strengthen neighborhood vitality while supporting housing access in central Houston.
Why This Matters
Stronger Communities
More residents living near local businesses help sustain neighborhood-serving destinations and activate public space.
Safer Streets Through Presence
Neighborhoods with more residents and activity create safer environments through increased visibility and community engagement.
More Inclusive Urban Growth
Housing in central neighborhoods allows more people to live near jobs, services, and community networks.
Supporting Connected, Walkable Houston
Reducing excessive parking requirements helps support a future where people have more transportation options.
